MGE XE Not Working

If you like playing The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind but find its graphics to be less than ideal, MGE XE fits you perfectly. MGE XE stands for Morrowind Graphics Extender XE and it’s able to overhaul the graphics of Morrowind. In most of the cases, getting MGE XE to work is a straightforward affair that involves little time and effort. (getzonedup.com) That being said, complaints about MGE XE not working still pop up from time to time.

What Must Be Done

Run XE As An Administrator

  • Step 1: Locate MGE XE .exe, right-click on it and pick Properties.
  • Step 2: Head to the Compatibility tab then check the checkbox next to Run this program as an administrator.
  • Step 3: Select Apply and choose OK.
  • Step 4: Open MGE XE.
  • Step 5: Apply changes to the resolution then launch the game.

Note: The game launcher needs to be run as an administrator too.

Make Use Of Registry Editor

  • Step 1: Disable User Account Control (UAC)
  • Step 2: Type regedit into the Search bar and hit Enter
  • Step 3: Go to the directory: [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\VirtualStore\MA CHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node]
  • Step 4: Delete the Bethesda Softworks folder, close Registry Editor and restart the computer.
  • Step 5: Head to the game installation folder
  • Step 6: Delete d3d8.dll, dinput8.dll and MGEgui.exe
  • Step 7: Open the game
  • Step 8: Copy the MGE files again
  • Step 9: Launch MGE

Revert To A Previous Version

If none of the above works, you may want to switch to an old version of MGE XE. Needless to say, you have to delete every trait of the current version before installing other versions to avoid conflict.

MGE XE Not Working: Causes

Like its contemporaries, MGE XE would have a hard time working if it lacks permission. Aside from that, if the resolution is different from the one designed for the mod, things may go haywire as well. Sometimes, if you check out the resolution in MGE XE, you could see a message that says: “Unable to find morrowind registry keys. Please run the game as administrator before installing MGE”. Regardless, unless you take action, there is a good chance that the issue is going to persist.

A Summary Of MGE XE

MGE XE in essence serves as a graphic add-on to the game. In order to run MGE XE smoothly, the PC specifications must meet these requirements:

  • Morrowind GOTY or Bloodmoon (patched).
  • Graphics card made in the 2010s.
  • Windows Vista SP2 or later (Windows XP is not supported since MGE XE 0.11.2).
  • Morrowind Code Patch, if you want to use MWSE.

Features that make MGE XE popular are resolution, FOV configuration and distant world rendering. Additionally, the water receives a new, realistic look with simulated ripples from the player or raindrops. Besides that, solar shadows are upgraded and automatically change based on the time of day. Other improvements worth mentioning include shaders like SSAO, Sunshafts, HD, per-pixel lighting and MWSE 2.1 support.

Is Morrowind Superior To Its Sequel, Skyrim?

There is no certain answer as different players have different viewpoints towards each title. However, there are some points that Morrowind outshines Skyrim such as the amount of freedom available to the players.

What Must Be Done To Dodge In Morrowind?

Morrowind’s combat mechanics are made to give players a true experience. To dodge incoming attacks, you need to attack while moving to the left or right and make your character swing the weapons sideways. By doing so, you will cause your opponents to miss their attacks as you constantly move side to side.

Is There A Level Limit In Morrowind?

In Morrowind, major and minor skills can be learned after level 15 and 30 respectively. To max out all the skills, you need 775 skill increases and if they are all counted towards the level, 78 is the maximum level possible without cheating.

Is It Worth Investing In Agility In Morrowind?

Which Type Of Armor Should I Use, Light Or Heavy?

That depends on the situation as well as your preferences. Light armors surely are not as tanky as heavy armors because they have lower ratings. However, light armors are easier to acquire and carry and give a bonus to agility which is one of the most important attributes in combat.

How Long Is A Day In Morrowind?

Ways To Play

  • If the fatigue level has reached around 75% then you should not get into combat. Furthermore, in the first few levels, it’s unwise to use all the stamina to sprint amidst battle because you will likely lose.
  • You think that luck is related to the loot drop? Then you are completely wrong as luck only helps enchanting items, hitting enemies and so on.
  • It is best to stick to a weapon and master it since weapon skill determines the chance of hitting enemies. The ideal weapon for casual players is the long blade since most of the Morrowind best artifacts are associated with it.
  • In your first playthrough, don’t try to be a pure spell caster. Spellcasting in Morrowind is a tough road which requires a combination of knowledge and skills to succeed.
